About QISH

When I was a kitten, I was rejected by a pet shop. I thought that was bad, because I thought I am not lovable. But as it turned out, it was a blessing in disguise! I've heard of so many bad things and horror stories about pets that stay in a pet shop (fleas, mites, diseases, bad health in general).

About RUE

I am Rue, and I am your lil cat fairy. No, I don't have superpowers, but I do have super charms. I bring lots of mischief to my hooman momma, but she still thinks sweetly of me. I get naughty a lot of times, but she thinks it's cute! Only because I am charming, and I have the biggest eyes and the pink-est nose in the cat world!

OMG Moment of Horror

I love going inside things -- boxes, closets, cupboards -- anything that provides dark privacy to my liking. So imagine my excitement when I found the microwave oven slightly open on the countertop. I had to investigate, of course. It smelled of chicken, perhaps the dinner I just had. It was still warm, so it was perfect.

Qish is Home! :)

-- Hooman Momma

It's been quite a rough week for our little kitty family. I had to leave Qish at Vets in Practice Animal Hospital on Sunday as his creatinine is at it's highest -- 2.6. I visited him everyday, and I saw him get better each day. Qish is not exactly the most sociable cat, so everytime someone from the hospital opens his cage, he hisses and tries to scratch/bite them. Well I guess he still owns the title, "Most Difficult Cat Patient of All Time" at the clinic :)

Finally after 5 days of confinement and kidney flushing, we went home on Thursday. He looked thrilled inside his carrier, but not after he threw a screaming/hissing fit at Dr. Riza when she was taking out his IV line. Dr. Riza is seriously our hero! No matter how badly Qish treats him, she never gives up on him. She is probably the only person in VIP who's heart doesn't skip a beat when handling Qish :)

While Qish was in the hospital, Rue was a little different -- she wouldn't play, and was very clingy. She would follow me around all the time! I guess she was a little confused as to why Kuya Qish wasn't home. She was a little weirded out by Qish's scent when he got home, but she started playing and running around around as soon as big brother was home! Whoever said that animals don't have feelings clearly hasn't lived with one!

Qish is still not back to his normal self, as he spends his time just hiding in his carrier and sleeping instead of bullying/playing with Rue. But I'm just so glad that he's home!

Here's the very feisty Qish while they were reinserting the IV line at the hospital:

Qish Needs Your Prayers :'(

-- Hooman Momma

I left Qish at Vets in Practice Animal Hospital again. He will have to stay there for at least 3 days. He has been vomiting, drinking a lot and has lost his appetite lately. Because I am quite familiar with the symptoms already, I knew something's wrong.

When Qish suffered from acute renal failure in 2010, I was told that about 60% of his kidney function has been lost -- only 40% of his kidneys were functioning at that time. His creatinine was at 2.3, and we managed to bring it down to 1.8 after kidney flushing.

Today, his creatinine is at 2.6 -- the highest value we got in two years since he was diagnosed with renal failure. Only about 25% of his kidneys are functioning. Sadly, once you lose that part of the kidney, it can never recover again. Dr. Riza told me that we have to make sure his creatinine doesn't reach 3.0 in his lifetime, as it would be harder to manage by then. What's making it worse is that Qish hates being handled by other people. He actually has a reputation at the vet already, for being the most difficult cat patient they ever had.

I brought him dinner, and he looked very tired from struggling and fighting the people that handled him. He even hissed at me, and wouldn't let me touch him at first. I hate to see him that way, but I also want him to get better. I hope his disposition will be better tomorrow when I visit him again :'(

Blogging from the iPad

-- Rue

We finally found an app that will let us blog and post photos from the iPad! This is our first post using Blogsy, so please let us know if our post looks normal! Teehee. My secretary (Hooman Momma) has been soooo lazy lately (she always tells me she's busy) so I am thinking of starting to blog by myself. What do you think?
